Gingerbread spice is pretty well known. There are countless recipes and in the end it comes down to personal taste and the love (or hate) for some of the ingredients used. With my version I aim for a round flavor that can be used for other things than gingerbread itself.
Ingredients
- 3g cinnamon
- 0.9g cloves
- 0.4g dried ginger
- 0.2g piment
- 0.2g coriander
- 0.2g green cardamon
- 0.2g nutmeg flower
- 0.1g anise
- 0.1g nutmeg
Instructions
Put all ingredients in a cold pan and let it heat up. Once they start smelling, start stirring for another minute. Afterward get them out of the pan and let them cool down a bit. Blend them and, if needed, sieve it.
Usages
I honestly never made gingerbread myself, though I love to use gingerbread spice in different recipes, mostly during winter times.
In case you ever wanted to make tiramisu during winter, but felt that it lacked the right twist, add 0.5g of gingerbread spice in the still hot coffee. This amount gives the dessert just the hint of flavor that most people would not be able to point their finger at without telling them.
Another recipe that you can alter with this spice is pumpkin soup.
