Schwarzbeernocken is a very traditional but not that well known austrian dessert.

Disclaimer: the difference between store bought blue berries and actually wild blueberries is enormous. Bought ones are a nice option the get something alike, but in the end it is a different dish.

Ingredients

  • 500-750g (frozen) blueberries
  • 250g milk
  • 250g all purpose flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 pinches of salt
  • butter to fry
  • sugar to serve
  • optional: 1cl rum

Instructions

Put the frozen blueberries out of the freezer half an hour up front so they can thaw a bit. Mix milk, eggs salt and flour together. Afterward gently mix in the half frozen blueberries. You do not want them to rip open or mash during this process. Preheat a pan and add a tablespoon of butter. Once it is melted, add a soup spoon full of the dough into the pan. Let it fry for about 5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.

Serve with powdered sugar and a glass of milk.

Tips

The more blueberries you add to the dough the better the taste. However, this comes at the cost that it gets more tricky to turn or serve them as they tend to rip very easily with more berries inside. Maybe start with 500g for the first time to get a feel for it. I would not go over 750g though.
