Halva is an amazing Turkish desert that just melts in your mouth. Its incredible easy to make and allows for a lot of flavor experimentation. This is a basic variant with cocoa and cinnamon though I have several ideas for further variants.
Ingredients
- 130g tahini
- 100g sugar
- 30g water
- pinch of salt
- 1tsp cocoa
- 1 pinch cinnamon
- some chopped chocolate
Instructions
Prepare a small vessel with baking paper. This is where the tahini will cool down in. For the listed amount I used a 12x10cm one. Now mix the other ingredients in a bigger bowl. The bowl should be big enough so that you can mix in the boiling sugar safely later.
Next mix the sugar and water in a pot and heat it over low heat. The sugar must resolve fully, afterward bring it to a boil.
Pour it over the other ingredients and mix them together well. Pour them in the prepared vessel and let the halva fully cool down before cutting and serving it.
In the fridge it should hold up for more than a months.
Tips
You can add some beauty to your halva by pouring half of it before mixing in the cocoa and cinnamon to the other half.

- Try lemon-mint or nuts as flavors
Note: If you make tahini from scratch it does make a huge difference if you used hulled ones or not. Without hull, you have to be very careful during roasting them. Once they start to smell, remove them from heat while still stirring. You will also need less oil for them (4 tbsp for 150g sesame should do fine).
