I never ate fish soup in my life, though recently got introduced to it (thanks Otto). This is my first try, resulting of a mixture of two family recipes. For a super fancy dish I was suprised how easy and fast this could be prepared.
Ingredients
- 350g zander fillet
- 500g black halibut fillet
- 700g water (same amount as fish)
- 400g peeled tomatoes (I used canned ones)
- 150g red wine
- 1 tbsp chicken stock powder
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 2 white onions
- 2 tbsp sweet paprika powder
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Add the water, red wine, paprika powder, tomatoes and chicken stock powder to a big pot. Bring it to a heat. Cut the onions into stripes and add it to the pot. Cut the paprika into stripes and put it aside. Cut the fish into pieces and place aside. Let the soup cook for about 15 minutes. Afterward reduce to a simmer and add the fish for about 15 minutes. Once you added the fish you should not stir or it will fall appart!
I made Spaetzle as side as it is common in romenia, though noodles or white bread would also fit perfectly.
Next Time…
- While adding both fish types late on ends up with a very pretty result the idea would be to add the soft fish from the start and only the hard one later on. This way the soft one will fall appart and thicken in the soup. Lets try that next time
- Add a bit more spices to the soup. Not sure what would fit, but just a bit more flavor would be great
