This Carinthian dish is quite unknown in austria. While easy to prepare, it was quite hard to translate (German: ‘Topfenauflauf’).

Ingredients

  • 250g curd cheese (‘Topfen’)
  • 1 egg
  • 1tbsp vanilla sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp wheat semolina
  • some butter

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Butter a baking form and cover the bottom and walls with some wheat semolina. Mix all other ingredients together and fill them in the buttered form. Note that the casserole will rise quite a bit. Bake it for 30 minutes. Top it with thin slices of butter and bake it for another 10 minutes at 230 degrees.

Tips

Once out of the oven it will sink pretty fast. Serve directly from the oven, best topped with some apricot jam.
