Simple Burger Bread

I’m not that into burgers, though I do make them once in a while. I’m still messing around with a good patty though I finally managed to make great burger bread. The recipe is actually very simple and pretty easy to make. You do need a bit of time for two resting periods though so keep that in mind.

Ingredients

  • 500g universal wheat flour
  • 20g fresh yeast (half a cube)
  • 10g salt
  • 325g warm water
  • 17g sugar (ca 1tbsp)
  • some egg for brushing
  • some sesame seeds

Instructions

Resolve the yeast in the warm water. Add all ingredients and knead them together well. Let the dough rest covered with a wet kitchen towel in a warm place for about one hour.

Knead the dough some more and split it into 5 equal pieces. Form little balls and let them rest covered for another hour in a warm place. If you skip out on this second rest the bread will rip open during baking.

Preheat the oven to 250 degrees. Brush the bread with egg and top it with some sesame seeds. If you make burger patties as well you can use the rest of the egg for those.

Place the baking tray on middle height and let bread bake until the top gets golden brown (ca 10 minutes). Afterward reduce the heat to 200 degrees and let it bake for another 10 to 15 minutes. To see if they are done get one out. If knocking on the downside sounds hollow they are done.

Get them out and cover them with a dry kitchen towel for at least 5 minutes. If you do not use them right away, let them covered for 10. This will soften the crust a bit which you do want for burger bread.

Next Time

The bread was awesome but the burger patties I tried this time were nothing special

  • 500g minced beef
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1tsp paprika powder
  • salt & pepper
  • breadcrumbs to cover the patties

Try to add 1-2 tbsp mustard and maybe some caramelized onions for better flavor.
